A major customer operating a large multi-building corporate campus initiated a modernization project to upgrade its wireless infrastructure and security systems. This upgrade included the deployment of highspeed Wi-Fi 6/6E access points and advanced 4K PTZ security cameras — all requiring high bandwidth and high power through a PoE connection.
The Challenge The project posed two major technical challenges:
High-Power Delivery Over Distance Many of the new Wi-Fi access points and PTZ cameras were IEEE 802.3bt compliant devices that required up to 100 watts of PoE power per port. These devices were often installed on rooftops, in parking structures, and across long building spans. Powering them over Ethernet cabling approaching or reaching 100 meters—the maximum standard Ethernet distance—was a critical hurdle, especially while maintaining performance and safety compliance.
High-Speed Data Requirements To support Wi-Fi 6/6E and 4K/8K video streams from security cameras, the infrastructure had to support multi-gigabit speeds, including 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, and 10Gbps. The switches needed to provide scalable uplinks to a centralized control center and support a variety of connected device speeds while maintaining seamless network performance and reliability.
The Solution
To meet these challenges, the customer deployed OmniConverter® 10GMGPoEBT/M Managed MultiGigabit PoE Ethernet Switches at strategic locations throughout the campus.
Key Solution Features
Key Features of the OmniConverter Solution:
IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 PoE++ support, delivering up to 100 watts per port to power high-performance access points and PTZ cameras.
Multi-Gigabit/multi-rate ports supporting 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, and 10Gbps for compatibility with a broad range of legacy and next-generation devices.
Copper and fiber uplinks to the centralized control center for flexible and high-speed network integration.
Managed switch features for complete remote configuration, monitoring, and control of both the switches and connected edge devices from the control center.
Industrial temperature-hardened operation (-40°C to +75°C), ensuring reliable performance in outdoor enclosures and harsh environments.
